Gainesville fugitive in custody

A 39-year-old Gainesville man, on the run from Gainesville Pollice for almost three years, has been arrested. Terry Darnell Washington, 39, was picked up in North Hall Tuesday.

“Our deputies picked him up yesterday afternoon on Ga. 60/Thompson Bridge Road in Murrayville,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman B.J. Williams wrote in an email Wednesday. “These charges all belong to the Gainesville Police Department, except the failure to appear, which is an old bench warrant. The probation warrant (hold) is out of South Carolina.”

“The only case I’m seeing in our system involving him is from 2023 where we issued warrants for his arrest following a residential burglary report,” Lt. Jessica Van of the Gainesville Police Department said. “The reporting party knew Washington and previously had a relationship with him. Washington allegedly took items from inside the victim’s residence (Blue Iris Way in the Copper Springs subdivision), then pawned (them) in another jurisdiction.”

Lt. Van added that officers were able to return those items to the victim after they were located at a pawn shop. Surveillance footage confirmed Washington’s identity and officers sought warrants for Burglary and Theft by Taking.

In addition, he’s charged with a traffic violation and, as Williams said, probation violation in South Carolina.
