Ga. Senate committee studying changes in SPLOST revenue distribution system

The impasse involving Hall County, Buford and Rest Haven over divvying up proceeds from a now-scrapped Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) is not the only such dispute in the state. Capitol-beat.org State senators asked to fix contentious talks over local sales tax money | (capitol-beat.org) reports that Julie Smith appeared before a Senate study committee considering potential changes to the system now in place.

The committee plans to hold two more meetings, one in Griffin and one in Savannah, before returning to Atlanta for a final meeting that could lead to recommendations for the full Senate to consider early next year, according to the published report.

The Hall County/Buford/Rest Haven stalemate followed months of negotiations in volving representatives of the three governments.
