>>>>FROM THE HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE: STORE EMPLOYEE, ACCOMPLICE ARRESTED IN ‘SMASH-AND-GRAB’ BURGLARY<<<<

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Two people have been arrested in connection with a smash-and-grab burglary late Thursday night at a Dollar General Store in northwest Hall County.

Just before 11:15 p.m., Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to an alarm at the store in the 4600 block of Old Cool Springs Road. When they arrived at the scene, they found the front glass of the store had been broken. No one was inside the building at that point. A store manager arrived and gave deputies access to video footage from the store’s security camera, which showed one suspect break the glass with what appeared to be a hammer and then take money from the store’s safe. The suspect fled the store on foot.

A K9 team was called to the scene and found a deposit bag, some cash holders and a quantity of cash abandoned nearby.

Further investigation determined the male suspect on the video could have been Canaan Joseph Garner, 22, of Gainesville, an employee of the store. Investigators also learned Audrey Lee J Knight, 19, of Gainesville, often gave rides to Garner to and from work. Deputies went to Knight’s residence and found her and Garner there. Both were taken into custody.

Both Garner and Knight have been charged with burglary/smash and grab from a retail establishment. Garner is also being held on warrants from another jurisdiction. Both remain in the Hall County Jail with no bond at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.”
