Because many people who use it but don’t pay the honor system parking fee, Forsyth County officials are planning to install a gate at Mary Alice Park.
The park now requires a $10-a-day charge or a yearly pass for $60. Users are supposed to pay the fee at a kiosk located next to the parking lot. But many don’t and there’s been little enforcement.
Kirk Franz, the county’s Parks and Recreation Director, tells WSB-TV the gate would result in $75,000 to $100,000 in additional revenue for the county. He said that at a cost of about $50,000, the gate would be similar to those at parking decks and require every visitor to pay before exiting the park.
The county commission has approved $48,000 for the installation of the gate. Franz hopes to have it installed by summer.
