Forsyth Co.: New multi-million-dollar bridge needs 9-month repair job

That new multi-million bridge on Georgia 369 over Georgia 400 in Forsyth County has some “settlement” problems that will require repairs that may take as long as nine months to finish. But county officials emphasize that the bridge “remains structurally safe” though parts of it “experienced cracks due to a bridge layout error by the project’s subcontractor at initial construction.”

The project’s initial subcontractor, Baldwin Paving Co., will manage the repair work and assumes full financial responsibility for the required additional work, according to county officials. The repairs will involve removing a portion of the bridge, including seven beams over Georgia 400.

“I want to assure all commuters that the bridge was and remains safe, and that this additional work is needed primarily to ensure the bridge’s long-term functionality,” said Forsyth County Manager David McKee. “Traffic has and will continue to flow in both directions across the southern side of the bridge as the necessary modification is made to the northern side.”
