Forsyth Co. man charged with DUI in accident that killed White Co. motorcyclist

FORSYTH CO. SHERIFF’S NEWS RELEASE:

“On September 7, 2023, at approximately 8:45pm, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department responded to Waldrip Road and SR 369 for a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle. 

The initial investigation revealed a Hyundai Sonata, operated by 35-year-old Colt Spencer of Gainesville (Forsyth County), had been traveling south on Waldrip Road and was waiting to turn left on to SR 369.  A Suzuki GSX-R600, operated by 53-year-old Timothy Cantrell of Cleveland, was traveling west on SR 369 approaching Waldrip Road.  Mr. Spencer proceeded to turn left failing to yield for the motorcycle, striking it.  Mr. Cantrell was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.  Mr. Spencer was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Deputies determined Mr. Spencer was impaired by multiple substances at the time of the crash.  After being medically cleared by hospital staff, he was placed under arrest and charged with Homicide by Vehicle 1st Degree, DUI and Failure to Yield Turning Left and was transported to the Forsyth County Jail.”
