A man wanted on child sex charges in Forsyth County has been killed in a shootout with DeSoto County, Fla., sheriff’s deputies.
It happened over the weekend about twelve hours after the sheriff’s office had been notified that Matthew Steven Rollie, 30, was in DeSoto County and that he was wanted in Forsyth County on charges of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes. Authorities in Florida also learned that he was a sexual offender who had not registered with the DeSoto sheriff’s office.
Two DeSoto sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle early Saturday morning believed to be occupied by Rollie. The vehicle was occupied by two individuals with the passenger being identified as Rollie.
During the process of identifying Rollie…began firing at the deputies, striking one of them several times. The deputies returned fire, killing him.
The injured deputy is recovering from his wounds.
