Forsyth County fire officials issued a burn ban Friday because of the danger of wildfires like those devastating parts of south Georgia.
The ban was issued just days ahead of the summertime state-mandated burn ban which is in place each year from May 1 to October 1 in more than 50 counties, Forsyth and Hall among them. That prohibition is in place each year in an effort to control emission-related ozone levels that may rise in summer.
Forsyth County officials say their burn ban which went into effect Friday pertains to “any and all recreational fires,” including backyard fire pits, campfires, cooking fires and campground grills.
Meanwhile, a halt to burn permits announced by Gainesville officials a month ago remains in place. GFD: Burn permits suspended
