Flu cases increasing; FDA recall; Death of longtime champion of liberal causes

*Flu cases appear to be on the rise in Georgia. The CDC reported there were 46 metro area hospitalizations across the Peach State for the week ending December 14, which is up from 14 the week before.  

*Certain cans of coconut water are being recalled in Georgia and more than two dozen other states. The FDA is warning consumers about nearly 170,000 cases of Jarritos coconut water that may be harmful. That equals out to more than two-million cans of the product that the administration says the lids may be compromised. No illnesses have been reported, but the recall is a precaution.  

*Vincent Fort, a former Democratic leader in the Georgia Senate and one-time candidate for Atlanta mayor and Congress who championed liberal causes for decades, has died of complications of cancer, the AJC reports. He was 68. His death was announced Sunday.
