Flowery Branch is considering adding roads to the city’s current road resurfacing project which would increase the projected cost of the overall work by about $590,000 which would bring the total cost of the work to $2.2 million. At the same time, one of the roads on the original list may be dropped.
The city awarded the Road Resurfacing Improvements construction contract to Baldwin Paving, Inc in the amount of one-point-six million dollars earlier this year.
“Given the generally favorable overall pricing of the bid, the City engaged ESG Engineering to design road paving improvements for additional roads and to obtain pricing from the contractor for incorporation of the additional scope into the contract,” according to the agenda for Thursday night’s city council meeting where a vote on the matter is planned.
This change order will incorporate road paving improvements on the follow roads (a total of approximately 2.2 miles):
Lazy Hammock Way
Blue Heron Way
Newberry Point
Flowery Branch Bay Park Road
A small portion of Flagstone Way
Railroad Ave – this will include resurfacing of the main travel lanes from West Chestnut
St to Main St as well as paving the existing gravel parking lot between Railroad Ave and
the railroad tracks.
Also, also one of the projects in the original plans would be removed.
“This portion is a section of Thurmon Tanner Pkwy owned/maintained by Hall County,” according to the documents for the meeting. “This area was originally included in the contract as part of a potential, longer-term paving arrangement in which the County would engage the contractor for purposes of resurfacing their roads. After discussions with the County, this arrangement will not be pursued and this area will be removed from the project scope.”
