The senior pastor of Gainesville’s First Baptist Church died Sunday morning following a year-long battle with cancer.
It was last July that Rev. Dr. Jeremy Shoulta revealed his illness. EARLIER STORY. POSTED JULY 30, 2025: Gville 1st Baptist pastor reveals diagnosis of cancer
Shoulta’s passing was announced to the public in a social media posting by the church Sunday:
“…It is with immense sadness that we share news of Pastor Jeremy’s passing this morning around 9:15AM after his long fight with cancer. He died peacefully at Emory University Hospital surrounded by his family.
Rev. Dr. Jeremy Shoulta was called to serve the congregation of First Baptist Church in April of 2020. Jeremy served as a faithful, caring, and creative pastor who cared deeply for this church as you all have cared deeply for him. The Shoulta family remains grateful for the immense and generous care you have offered him and his family through his cancer journey.
We ask that you remain in prayer for Valarie, Maggie, Macy, his parents, siblings, and his wide community of family and friends. We will gather to celebrate Jeremy’s good and impactful life at a time soon to be confirmed and shared…”
It was revealed last week that he was in ICU at Emory Hospital.
With Gratitude For You All,
The Ministry Staff of First Baptist Church of Gainesville, GA.
