Fireworks blamed for park fire, damage to vehicle

Fourth of July fireworks are blamed for a fire at a park on Lake Lanier and damage to a car Thursday night.

Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) spokesman Bobby Ogletree says the fire occurred at Balus Creek Park.

“After an investigation this morning, the origin of this fire was determined to be the use of fireworks,” Ogletree said Friday morning. “No structures were damaged, and no one was injured. Total area burned was approximately (one-fourth) of an acre.”

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) investigated the other incident.

“One of our deputies responded to a residence on Bolding Road around 10:30 last night (Thursday night) to investigate a report of a vehicle that had been damaged by fireworks (cracked windshield),” spokeswoman B.J. Williams wrote in an email. “The complainant was able to tell the deputy where he believed the projectile came from. The deputy spoke with the homeowner where the fireworks had been set off and he agreed to pay for the damage.”

Williams added there were no injuries.
