*A Delta flight has been forced to make an emergency landing in Fort Myers, Florida. Officials say it was due to smoke in the cabin caused by a passenger’s personal battery bursting into flames. The flight left Atlanta Monday morning, and was bound for Fort Lauderdale. Gulfcoast News reports that flight attendants extinguished the fire that was contained in a bag, and the Boeing 757 landed safely at Southwest Florida International Airport with 185 passengers and six crew members onboard. No injuries were reported, and the FAA is investigating the incident.
*Two granddaughters of Georgia Congressman Buddy Carter are safe after last Friday’s flooding in Texas, where they were attending Camp Mystic. While Carter expressed gratitude for the prayers and well wishes. At last report, at least 10 children and one adult were still missing from the camp for girls.
*Shriners Children’s Research Institute will establish a $153 million medical research facility in Atlanta, focusing on cell and gene therapies, robotics, and AI. According to Rough Draft Atlanta, the facility will employ 470 staff and collaborate with Georgia Tech and Emory University.
*Budweiser is bringing back its Clydesdales for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta. On Friday, July 11th, the horses will deliver beer in downtown Smyrna to kick off All-Star Week.
