Fire destroyed chicken house in the 4100 block of East Hall Road Monday night, killing 18,800 chicks, according to a spokeswoman for Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR).
The call came in as a woods fire but when the first firefighters arrived, they discovered it was a fully-involved chicken house that had already burned to the ground.
“The crew requested more engines respond to the scene, as well as the water tender for water supply,” Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) spokeswoman said. “Crews fought the flames and prevented further extension for about two hours. They continuously shuttled water to the scene, due to the lack of hydrants in the area.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The sheriff’s office reports that East Hall Road was closed for about two hours because of fire.
