Smoke was seen billowing from the civic center by passing motorist on Green Street Tuesday afternoon but the fire that was causing it was outside the building.
“Today at approximately 1:45pm, a small fire erupted outside the Gainesville Civic Center,” reads a Facebook post from Gainesville Parks & Recreation. “The Gainesville Fire Department responded quicky and the fire was contained. No damage was reported to the inside of the Civic Center. No injuries were reported.”
Passing motorists were posting about it on social media, some with pictures, and many speculating that the building was on fire. Others suggested it was or might be a dumpster fire.
The incident is currently under investigation, according to the Parks & Recreation post.
