Financial hardships report; Firefighters injured; World Cup disappointment; Data center update

*The latest report from United Way finds that around four-out of-ten Georgians are struggling to afford basic needs and are facing tough financial choices. United Way uses a broader measure than the federal poverty level, factoring in income, and local living costs. The report identifies adults 25 to 64 as the group facing the greatest financial issues.

*Several Atlanta firefighters are recovering after suffering injuries in a crash. It happened in Buckhead yesterday while a fire truck had its emergency lights and siren activated. The truck reportedly came to a complete stop before proceeding through an intersection. The driver of the second vehicle then slammed into the truck. All of the injuries were minor, and the second driver was issued a citation.  

*After the first FIFA World Cup game in Atlanta on Monday, with thousands in attendance, many vendors outside the stadium reported disappointing sales. Atlanta News First reports that an organizer of vendor placement released a statement that read in part, “We have more solutions in place, and with seven matches to go, they will get progressively better.” The next game is this Thursday between  
the Czech Republic and South Africa.  

*(SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS & NEWNAN TIMES HERALD) – Less than a week after residents of neighboring Port Wentworth met to organize a protest against data centers, the Garden City City Council has unanimously approved a six-month moratorium on them. And Fayetteville residents and the Flint Riverkeeper plan to file suit against one there.
