Fight over car purchase leads to severe injuries, one arrest

A Toccoa man is free on bond following an after-hours fight in a Hall County school parking lot with a Gwinnett County man in a dispute over a person-to-person vehicle sale. The victim suffered severe injuries, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The incident happened Friday evening.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“…deputies responded to the parking lot of Friendship Elementary School around 6 p.m. to investigate a report of two people involved in a physical fight. When they arrived, they located the victim, a 26-year-old Lawrenceville man, suffering from severe injuries to his face. The suspected attacker, Chad David Ivey, 45, was at the scene as well.

The investigation determined Ivey had purchased a vehicle from the victim earlier in the month. He believed the victim had been dishonest, selling him a vehicle with an altered title. When Ivey saw the victim had placed an online sales advertisement for another vehicle, Ivey arranged to meet the victim at the school with the apparent intention of confronting him about the previous sale. The two argued and Ivey then punched the victim in the face multiple times. When the victim attempted to run from the scene, Ivey chased him and prevented him from leaving.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated for two broken cheekbones, a broken nose and a broken orbital bone.

Ivey was arrested at the scene on charges of aggravated battery and false imprisonment. Ivey posted a bond of $5,900 and was released from custody on Saturday…”
