A registered sex offender was recently arrested in Forsyth County after authorities say he was caught playing badminton with a group of children at a county park.

A (sheriff’s) deputy noticed an alert that a registered sex offender’s vehicle had entered a county park facility. The deputy located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Old Atlanta Recreation Center on Nichols Road. As part of Zhenyu Cao’s conditions as a registered sex offender, he is only permitted to drop off or pick up his children from that location and could not stay there for any other reason.
On this day, it was very obvious that the Rec Center was hosting a children’s day camp as bouncy houses were out in front of the building and children were walking all around the area.
Deputies located Mr. Cao inside the recreation center playing badminton in the gym with some children. When deputies questioned Mr. Cao, he stated his children were at home and he did not realize the location was a county recreation center and not a regular gymnasium…
Mr. Cao was taken into custody and charged with Sex Offender Failure to Register and Comply with Request.”
