FCSO: Detectives thwart $7,000 scam

FORSYTH CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (FCSO) FACEBOOK POST (EDITED FOR CLARITY AND BREVITY):

“(Recently) our property crimes Lieutenant received a phone call from a wife frantic to get a hold of her husband.  She believed he was being scammed and would not answer any calls or texts from her.  She told the Lieutenant her husband was on the phone with someone who was attempting to get money from him to cancel the warrants for his arrest.

“Now we have put several posts out warning citizens about this scam.  Law Enforcement does not call if you have a warrant.  They just show up!

“The wife tracked her husband’s location and relayed it to the Lieutenant.  Now the team was assembled and they put a plan in place…  The Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) contacted Cobb County to be on the look out for the husband’s car.  Two detectives jumped in their car and headed to the bank in Cobb County where the husband was tracked to.  On the way, they called the bank to stop any transactions on his account.

“The detectives found the husband heading to his car after withdrawing $7,000 from his account.   The husband explained he received a call from Chief Deputy Schultz with Fulton County who told him he missed court and had two charges of contempt of court and owed a bond of $20,000.  He told the ‘Chief Deputy’ he may be able to come up with $11,000 and the ‘Chief Deputy’ lowered the bond to that amount…  Here’s a new twist to this ole scam….the ‘Chief Deputy’ told the husband a gag order was in place and he was not allowed to speak to anyone concerning the conversations.  That is why he did not respond to his wife’s or the Sheriff’s Office calls.

Due to the quick actions of the Lieutenant, the detectives and the RTCC the thief did not get any of the money!

“Plesae, please, share this information with your family and friends so they do not fall prey to this scam.”
