Though the building it shares with City Hall is only seven years old, the Flowery Branch Police Department (FBPD) may be getting a home of its own because city officials say it has outgrown the space allocated to it at City Hall.
The city council Thursday night will be asked to approve the purchase of property on Thurmon Tanner Road as the future site for a stand-alone public safety building.
“The City of Flowery Branch has grown in population and in staff over the past several years,” the item on Thursday’s meeting agenda reads. “Employees moved into the current City Hall building in March 2018 with Administration and Community Development upstairs and the Police Department downstairs. The Police Department has outgrown the space downstairs in City Hall.
“As the City of Flowery Branch grows, council has explored options for additional space for various departments,” the agenda item continues. “The parcel on Thurmon Tanner was identified as a potential site for a future public safety building, and the parties have come to an agreement for the terms of the purchase.”
The council meeting is at 6:00 at City Hall.
