Newly released data from the FBI show the number of violent crimes worked by the Gainesville Police Department in 2022 totaled 241 with 113 of them cleared versus 180 in 2021 with 72 of them cleared. Ten years ago, there were 113 such crimes and 31 were cleared.
The FBI says the Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigated 296 such crimes last year, clearing 155 of the cases. That compares to 302 in 2021 with 159 of those solved. Ten years ago, the respective numbers were 187 and 114.
In the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses that involve force or threat of force.
