*A couple of bills designed to help working families in Georgia have been introduced to the state legislature. One bill, House Bill 1118, will cover more paid time off for new moms. Another bill, House Bill 1351, would allow pharmacists to prescribe birth control. And a third bill, House Bill 1142 would create a domestic violence registry in the state. The bill are all sponsored by Republicans and are expected to move ahead through the legislature.
*A Columbia County woman is sentenced to federal prison for using stolen and counterfeit business checks to commit Bank Fraud of nearly million dollars and Identity Theft. 35-year-old, Dechanta Benning, received a 70-month prison sentence for her crimes. WJBF reports Benning altered stolen business checks from the USPS, deposited them into bank accounts, and withdrew the money.
*Five Georgia universities are among the 500 best in the world, according to a recent ranking from Time designed to help students understand where they’re most likely to get degrees that help them achieve extraordinary success after graduation. The Georgia schools and their rankings are: Emory University-22; Georgia Tech-62; University of Georgia-171; Augusta University-455; and, Georgia State University-482. (TIME MAGAZINE)
