A year after it was closed, the Dawsonville Highway/Shallowford Road entrance to the west Gainesville shopping center anchored by Best Buy has been repaired and reopened.
It had been closed since June 26, 2023, because of a “failed” drainage pipe. Work on the repairs did not begin until this spring.
The piece of land in question is actually on private property but the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) was involved because the property owner had the driveway installed and requested a GDOT permit for access to Georgia Highway 53, the Dawsonville Highway.
It was GDOT issued the order that the driveway be closed.

GDOT ADVISORY:
“WHAT: Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has shut down the access to the entrance ramp at State Route (SR) 53 Connector travelling west at the Shallowford Road traffic signal. The area has been restricted to traffic due to a failed drainage pipe.
WHEN: The closure is in effect until further notice.
WHERE: The entrance at Mister Car Wash at SR 53 Connector and Shallowford Road.
