Elsewhere on this site (in the Georgia News section) you will find a story about the end of an era at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution – the final printed edition of the paper which will continue a daily edition but online only. What you may not know is that it means an end of an era at The Times in Gainesville, as well, and the loss of a job for 24 of its employees, according to a story in today’s edition.
The Times had, for some time, been printing the AJC. And at one time, when it was owned by Ganett, USA Today, was printed there, too.
The Times, itself, at the first of December reduced the number of its printed editions to one from two. For some time, it had been printing twice-a-week, a weekend edition and a midweek edition, while providing online editions the rest of the week.
It’s all a part of the changing faces of newspapers in this county. Many have for several years given way to online editions only.
