Elderly woman bitten by family dog, seriously injured

A 79-year-old Hall County woman is recovering from series injuries suffered earlier this week when she was bitten by her dog. Hall County Animal Control responded to the Farmhouse Lane incident late Sunday night.

The responding animal control officer arrived at the incident location about 10:00 Sunday night, according to the officer’s report, and spoke with the dog’s owner who is the victim’s grandchild who advised that it was not current on its rabies vaccine.

The victim’s daughter said her mother was walking past the dog in a dark hallway and stepped on it by accident. The dog started growling, then proceeded to attack the victim, biting her in several spots, including the shoulders, ear, neck, face, arm, hand, head and neck, causing serious bleeding in places.

Other members of the family, she said, started hitting the dog in an attempt to get it off, but it would not budge. The granddaughter had to lay on the dog in order to remove it from the victim, 911 was called, and the victim was taken to the hospital.

The dog, a pit bull/terrier mix, was placed in quarantine and is being held at the Hall County Animal Shelter. The owner was cited for not having it “current” on its rabies vaccine.
