Elaine Nix memorial vigil; GHS lockdown?; 14 injured in two wrecks

*It’s been 25 years since a Gainesville teenager, Elaine Nix, disappeared only to be found dead in northern Gwinnett County a few days later. Wednesday night at her gravesite at Memorial Park Cemetery her family, as they have done every year at this time since her murder, will hold a vigil in her memory and to re-emphasize that her killer or killers remain at large.

*There were a few tense moments Monday at Gainesville High School when it appeared an emergency of some sort had resulted in a lockdown. But Gainesville City Schools Supt. Jeremy Williams said Tuesday “A teacher inadvertently pressed the Centegix badge alert system.  There was no lockdown nor any threats.”

*The state patrol said Tuesday 14 people were injured in two wrecks that snarled traffic over the weekend on two major highways in Hall County. All of the injuries were minor, according to troopers. The accidents occurred on Cleveland Highway near Shope Road Saturday afternoon and about midnight Saturday on Browns Bridge Road near Serene Shores Drive.
