East Forsyth High has a new head football coach

FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM NEWS RELEASE:

“East Forsyth is excited to announce Dustin Canon as the head football coach.  Coach Canon has 12 years coaching experience at Effingham County, Forsyth Central, and here at East.  He has been integral in the establishment of the football program and building the program into a playoff team in year 3.   He has been involved in all aspects of starting the program here at East and is ready to take the lead as a head football coach.  We are fortunate to have him here and be able to hand off the reigns of leadership to him.

Dustin is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Science Education.   When he returned to Forsyth Central, he coached both baseball and football.  During his years at Central he was the special team’s coordinator and eventually the offensive coordinator.  During his time as the Offensive Coordinator at Central, he coached two top-ten scoring offenses in school history and coached the team to a playoff appearance in 2018.  Something that had not been done in almost twenty years.  He enjoyed success on the baseball diamond as well.  During those years Forsyth Central went to five consecutive playoff appearances, won two region championships, and a final four appearance in 2021.  When he moved to East, he worked with track in addition to coaching the receivers under Coach Allison.  He was promoted to defensive coordinator in his second year at East.  Under his guidance the Bronco Defense held opponents finished second in Forsyth County in points allowed in 2023 and coached the team to a playoff appearance in the same year.

Coach Hollis said “It is rare that you can hire someone that has the experience of coordinating all 3 phases of football and understands the community where we are at East.  Coach Canon has the unique perspective of watching the East community grow and change since playing youth football in Forsyth County.  He truly believes that the potential for East Forsyth High School has just begun to show through and that we can be something special.  I am excited to see our program continue in a successful direction under Coach Canon’s direction.”

Dustin Canon said “I am excited about the opportunity to build on the foundation laid at East. This is a great community with hard working kids and families. We will work hard to build a first-class program that strives to make a difference in the families involved in the football program and East Forsyth community. “

Dustin and his wife Holly grew up in Forsyth County and have a daughter, Olivia Grace (16mo).”
