A livestock owner in East Hall shot a dog that was attacking sheep on his farm on Holly Springs Road, prompting an investigation by Hall County Animal Control.
“I can confirm that three sheep were killed and a fourth was injured by the dog,” Hall County spokeswoman Sarah Crowe said Friday afternoon. “The dog was shot but is recovering.”
It happened Sunday, according to an Animal Control Department report that was released Friday.
The owner of the sheep told the investigating officer that this was not the first time that the same dog owner’s dogs have attacked his sheep. But that none were killed or injured in the first incident, which occurred last November.
The report says the officer got the name of the owner of the dogs and went to his residence but got no response when he knocked on the door. The dog owner had reportedly taken the animal to a vet. He then left but not before leaving his card and asking that they call him, but they had not at the time his report was filed. The officer also noted that the sheep owner said he had tried to contact the dog owner but had gotten no response either.
The investigation determined that the sheep owner was within his rights to shoot the dog and the dog owner was within his rights to take the wounded animal to a vet.
