Drought conditions in Georgia which had been losing ground in recent weeks began expanding in coverage over the past week – even easing back into Hall County and other counties in the immediate Gainesville area.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) says drought conditions now cover 28 percent of Georgia compared to ten percent a week ago.
In our area, it now takes in the South Hall area as well as portions of Forsyth, Dawson, Jackson, and Barrow counties in addition to all of Gwinnett. All of metro Atlanta, west central Georgia from Cartersville to Columbus, and several counties along the Georgia-Florida line are also feeling its effects.
And there’s the likelihood that it will expand even more over the next seven days because there’s little prospect of rain in the state for the next week or so.
