Drought conditions worsened in Georgia over the past two weeks, and in parts if two counties in our area, Jackson and Banks, things are now considered “severe.”
That’s the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) category that covers most of the state, along and south of a line from near Statesboro to Macon to Columbus, with small pockets in that category in other places, such as Elbert, Hart, Madison and Franklin counties in addition to Banks and Jackson.
And the level of Lake Lanier?
It is actually up 1.2 feet from this time last week and is now at 1065.4, a change likely attributed to all that weekend flooding with mountain areas the hardest hit and a lot of that water flowing into the Chattahoochee River which feeds the lake.
