12:45 P.M. FRIDAY UPDATE:
You may notice that no drive-thru clinics are listed for Gainesville. The reason, according to District 2 spokeswoman Christina Joseph, is work that is continuing on an expansion of the district office.
“Due to ongoing construction at the health department that is affecting traffic flow and parking, Hall County will not be able to host a drive-thru clinic this year, but we plan to have a dedicated space next year to host drive-thru flu clinics as the construction is set to wrap up later this year,” Josephy wrote in an email. “Flu vaccines are still offered during regular business hours at the health department with no appointment necessary.”
ORIGINAL STORY. POSTED 7:15 A.M. FRIDAY:
Drive-thru flu clinics will again be hosted by District 2 County Health Departments across northeast Georgia this fall, including Forsyth, Banks, White, Lumpkin, and Habersham counties. The Gainesville-based District 2 Public Health office released the schedule for the clinics earlier this week.
The flu shot is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and up, except for those who have had a severe allergic reaction to the flu vaccine or any of its components. The flu vaccine is offered at no-cost with most insurance plans, so participants will just need to bring their insurance details. If paying out of pocket, the regular flu vaccine is $30, and the high dose flu vaccine for adults 65 years and older is $66.
Since 2007, the District 2 Public Health office has provided drive-thru flu clinics for the community as an accessible option, especially for individuals with access and functional needs. Drive-thru flu clinics are available in addition to walk-in services at all health departments during usual hours.
Last year alone, nearly 2,900 people in District 2 visited the emergency room due to the flu. The CDC states “getting a yearly flu vaccination is the best way to prevent flu and its potentially serious complications.” To learn more information about the flu, visit https://www.cdc.gov/flu/.
