Fears of increased crime, overcrowded schools, and traffic congestion were among the reasons given for many who spoke during a 3-and-a-half-hour discussion before the Cornelia City Commission Tuesday night of a proposed annexation and rezoning of nearly 300 acres along Georgia 365. “
“People moved here for the beauty and the small-town feel. Don’t let this become like Gainesville,” begged one speaker in addressing the commission. Others cited the growth in Hall County as a whole and in Dawson County as reasons they opposed the proposal.
According to a filing with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the development would include a mixture of residential, commercial, retail and industrial components.
In the end, the annexation and rezoning request did not pass.
