‘Distinguished’ newspaper exec, Gville native dies

·Myles Godfrey, described in his obituary as a “distinguished” Georgia newspaper executive, who was a Gainesville native and got his start in the business here, died Monday, at his home in Barrow County at the age of 83.

A celebration of life, or “storytelling” celebration as his obituary put it, was held Friday.

Godfrey began his long newspaper career at the Gainesville Times selling advertising. It ended in Barrow County where he served as publisher of the Winder News and later started another publication, the Barrow Eagle.
