The Demorest police chief and assistant chief are not the only ones vacating the department. Add patrol officiers as well as civilian workers to the mix, according to 11 Alive.
“In just a couple of weeks, Demorest could be left with only one police officer as its chief and other officers leave amid an ongoing dispute with city leaders,” the report says.

In its report, the TV station says Chastain is also alleging that city leadership has interfered with officers’ ability to do their jobs and, in some cases, asked them to take actions he believes would violate their legal obligations.
Despite turning in his resignation, Chief Chastain was patrolling the city Monday – but the only officer doing so.
City officials Monday were still not commenting on the situation.
Meanwhile, Rob Moore, a spokesman for the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, told 97.5 Glory FM Tuesday the department has been contacted by Demorest officials “and will provide coverage during any time they do not have an officer on duty.”
