Three drownings and three boating fatalities plus numerous other serious incidents marred the July 4 weekend on Georgia waterways. Not to mention more than 40 BUIs with Lake Lanier tops in that category.
A final report from the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shows Lanier recorded 13 BUIs during the three-day period, almost twice the number (7) recorded on Lake Allatoona.
A boating accident over the weekend at Thompson Creek Park in Dawson County (picture) caused extensive damage to the courtesy dock. The dock remains closed, and repair work will begin as soon as possible.
