A Dawsonville man died Sunday morning when his motorcycle was hit by an SUV at an intersection in Habersham County. The state patrol said Monday it happened about 9:30.
According to the report, the SUV was stopped facing south on Ga. 15 (441 Bypass) in the left turn lane, waiting to make a U-turn to travel north.
When traffic cleared, the driver, Arthur French, 70, Lakemont, began the turn and entered the northbound lanes. At the same time, the motorcycle, operated by Rodrigo Silva Manzo, 29, Dawsonville, was traveling north on Ga. 15 in the right lane. The front right side of French’s vehicle struck the left side of the bike.
After impact, the motorcycle veered right, left the roadway, and hit a guardrail. Manzo was thrown into a road sign and landed off the roadway. The motorcycle continued forward, vaulting over a second guardrail and came to rest on the east shoulder.
French was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation and at last check no charges had been filed.
