Data center talk ramps up

With a data center in South Hall on the agenda for next Thursday’s county commission meeting, different groups are weighing-in with concerns about such a development – with one having scheduled an informational meeting on the topic Tuesday.

In what it refers to as a Call to Action, the Hall County Republican Party is asking residents to get involved and urge commissioners to table the proposal until more detailed information is provided. “This project “SHOULD NOT” move forward without full transparency on its impact to our community,” the GOP notice says.

Their key concerns? Lack of transparency and “rushed” approval, massive energy demands, high water usage, and tax breaks at the expense of residents.

The party is calling on concerned citizens to email concerns before Friday, Oct. 17, “to ensure your comments are entered into the public record for the October 23 meeting.”

Indivisible Hall, meanwhile, has an informational meeting planned Tuesday night at 7:00 at the civic center at which data centers and their environmental impact will be discussed. The featured speaker will be Robert Jones, a former Public Service Commission candidate.
