Cumming Police Chief P.J. Girvan has become the department’s first graduate of the FBI National Academy.
The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on December 11. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers has the opportunity to attend the program.
The Academy offers 11 weeks of advanced training in communication, leadership, and fitness. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience.
The 296th session consisted of 254 law enforcement officers from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, four military organizations, and two federal civilian organizations.
