Contract approved for upgrade to Ga. 365 intersection where 5 died

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GTOT) has awarded a contract for a Restricted Access U-Turn or RCUT at the intersection of State Route 365 and Mt. Zion Road where five people died in a fiery two-vehicle crash several weeks ago.

The project is part of the Quick Response Program which allows GDOT to quickly identify, approve and construct small traffic operations safety projects on the state route system. The crossroads is one of several that have been identified for an RCUT to improve traffic flow and safety. Several RCUTs have already been installed along the 365 corridor.

Work on the project should begin shortly, GDOT spokeswoman Elizabeth Johnson said Tuesday.
