Work begins Fri. on major component of I-985 bridge project

GDOT ADVISORY:

“WHAT: Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and contractor E.R. Snell will be setting the concrete bridge beams on Apache drive over Interstate-985 near mile post 18.5.The contractor will use a traffic pacing which will begin at around mile post 15.0. This will involve police officers and contractor vehicles.

The on-ramp to I-985 Northbound (Exit 17) will be closed during traffic pacing to ensure motorists safety and don’t interfere during active traffic pacing and the work zone.

WHEN: Traffic pacing should begin on Friday morning, August 18,2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. northbound at weather permitting 

WHERE: This operation will impact Northbound traffic on I-985 at milepost 15.  The pacing may cause severe congestion on SR 13 and possibly SR 53.

WHY: To set concrete beams to complete the deck and construct a new bridge Elachee Drive over I-985.r

Note: Delays are anticipated. Motorists should be aware of reduced speed and severe congestion as traffic paces can last up to 20 minutes. Consider alternate routes.”
