GDOT NEWS RELEASE:
“The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is beginning construction on the Sardis Road Connector, a transformative transportation project aimed at improving mobility in Hall County. This project will enhance north-south connectivity between State Route (SR) 53 and SR 60 while easing congestion on nearby roadways.
Project STP-0003-00(626) begins at the Sardis Road / Chestatee Road intersection and extends north to SR 60 near Mt. Vernon Road, spanning approximately 3.55 miles. The route follows a combination of existing local roads and newly constructed roadway on a new alignment.
The future Sardis Road Connector will be a four-lane, curb-and-gutter divided roadway with two travel lanes in each direction, separated by a 20-foot wide raised median. Sidewalks will also be constructed on both sides of the roadway, promoting safer pedestrian access and walkability.
“As Hall County continues to grow, so does the demand for safer, more efficient routes. The Sardis Road Connector is a critical piece of that solution,” said District Engineer Grant Waldrop. “It provides a more direct route between two major state routes and relieves pressure on surrounding local roads.”
Sardis Road will serve as the designated detour route during construction, helping to keep traffic moving safely through the area while work is underway.
The project’s construction contract was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor, LLC, for a total amount of $57,248,537.08.
Georgia DOT encourages drivers to remain alert, slow down in work zones, and follow detour signage. Regular updates on project progress and traffic impacts will be available online and through social media.
