A former president of Lanier Tech is one of the members of a state legislative committee which is charged with studying the quarter and semester systems in Georgia’s institutions of higher learning.
Dr. Ray Perren will represent the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) on the panel. He left Lanier Tech in 2020 to become Deputy Commissioner for Technical Education for the TCSG.
Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced the makeup of the committee last week. The committee was created by legislation adopted during the 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly.
it is charged with investigating the “respective advantages and disadvantages of semesters and quarters for institutions” of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia and whether the anticipated benefits of converting to the semester system have been realized.
The study committee has been asked to submit its findings in proposed legislation during the 2025 legislative session.
