Library wholesaler Baker & Taylor is shutting down, having released 520 employees and canceled their severance pay Tuesday, 100 of them at its Commerce facility.
Owner and CEO Aman Kochar said that while he had hoped to find another way forward for the company after its acquisition deal with ReaderLink was called off, he now does not see a way to stay in business, according to Publishers Weekly.
There had been some layoffs earlier this year, but the company still had about 1,500 employees.
Workers at the Commerce book distribution warehouse told 11 Alive they were blindsided by their layoff notices.
