A proposal to move 200 graves from an old cemetery in Commerce to make way for a proposed business park has been rejected by the city council. The vote was unanimous.
A real estate developer wants to develop the nearly 600-acre Wilson-Wheeler-King Cemetery site which would have required the relocation of the graves.
Descendants of those interred there packed city council chambers, asking the developer to leave the cemetery alone and the council to reject the proposal.
