Hazardous wind chills are expected this morning and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), increasing the risk of hypothermia. Readings of 0-5 are likely in mountain areas with 10-5 degrees expected as far south as Atlanta, Gainesville and Athens and 10-15 in middle Georgia.
At 6:00, the temperature at the Gainesville airport was 29 and the wind chill was 18.

A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for almost two-thirds of Georgia including Gainesville and vicinity.

“…COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 AM EST THURSDAY
- WHAT… Very cold wind chills as low as 5 above expected.
- WHERE… Portions of central, east central, north central, northeast, northwest, southeast, and west central Georgia.
- WHEN… From 10 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Thursday.
- IMPACTS… Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of cold temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
