Clyde weighs in on Supreme Court immunity ruling

Republican lawmakers and allies of Donald Trump, including 9th Dist. Congressman Andrew Clyde, are praising the Supreme Court’s ruling that presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution.

Clyde (R-Jackson County) tweeted on X “MAJOR WIN for U.S. Constitution, President Trump, and America.”

Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene said the decision is a huge victory for Trump.

The high court’s decision is expected to delay the former president’s federal election interference case by sending the case back to a lower court to decide whether his conduct after the 2020 election were official acts. The decision could impact all of Trump’s pending court cases.

Greene added that the federal cases against Trump should be dropped following the Supreme Court’s immunity decision.

President Biden’s campaign said in a statement that the ruling “doesn’t change the facts” about the events of Jan. 6 and Biden, himself, took to the airwaves early in the evening to denounce the court’s action..

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized it as “a disgraceful decision,” made with the help of the three justices that Trump appointed.

“It undermines SCOTUS’s credibility and suggests political influence trumps all in our courts today,” the New York Democrat said on X.
