Clyde sympathetic but…

Add Congressman Andrew Clyde to the list of those inside and outside of government throwing their support behind President Trump’s tariffs despite what many opponents say will lead to higher prices for all of us and be of little benefit overall. Clyde (R-Jackson County), a staunch supporter of the president, whose district includes parts of Hall County weighed in Tuesday.

“I certainly understand concerns about this bold tactic given drops in the stock market and overall uncertainty surrounding potential economic impacts,” he said in his weekly newsletter. “Many have acknowledged there may be some short-term pain, but that the end result will be long-term gain.”

And he added “For far too long, the United States has been ripped off by countries across the globe — by allies and adversaries alike — with unfair trade practices. After years of America being taken advantage of, President Trump is taking bold action to level the playing field.”

But not all Trump loyalists are on board the tariff train. No less that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz warned over the weekend that Americans face an uncertain economic future because of the tariffs.
