The House has passed a six-month continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown, withe the two congressmen – Andrew Clyde and Rich McCormick, who represent Hall County among those voting for it.
The bill narrowly passed 217-213 on Tuesday, with all but one Republican supporting the stopgap measure.
“We’re delivering on our commitment to keep the government open so President Trump and his Administration can continue achieving wins for the American people,” Clyde (R-Jackson County) Tweeted in defending his vote. “I have generally opposed CRs. However, this CR is a paradigm shift. The bill REDUCES then FREEZES spending for the next six months and contains ZERO earmarks.”
The proposal now heads to the Senate, where Republicans control with a slight majority and its fate remains uncertain with Kentucky’s Rand Paul having made it clear he’s firmly against the bill.
In the House, only Rep. Thomas Massie, also from Kentucky, was the only Republican to vote “no,” and he immediately drew the wrath of President Trump, who declared on social media, he’s “a GRANDSTANDER, who’s too much trouble.” Trump also promising to lead to the fight against him should he seek re-election.
