The Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is the latest organization to try to assure the public that the water from Lake Lanier that is used by some water systems is okay for drinking and cooking despite an off-taste and odor.
But despite such assurances over the past few months that water is okay, concerns are still being aired.
Now, the Riverkeeper has posted a video on social media explaining that this is a normal occurrence each year as the seasons change: (5) Facebook
As 97.5 Glory FM first reported Sept. 22, quoting an advisory from the City of Gainesville: During this time of year, Lake Lanier can experience a “Lake Turnover,” which is prompted by a change in the air temperature. This involves an inversion of the surface water and deeper water. This can cause a taste/odor “event.”
Recently, the AJC reported that Atlanta officials have been getting complaints, too. The Atlanta Water System gets its water from the Chattahoochee River, a part of which is, of course, downstream from the lake.
