Chase from N. Hall to G’ville ends with Talmo man in jail

A Talmo man remained in the Hall County Jail Friday afternoon- facing more than 20 charges – following his arrest in connection to a Wednesday night chase involving sheriff’s deputies and the state patrol that started in northeastern Hall County.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“A Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy was conducting speed enforcement operations on SR 365 in the area of Tribble Gap Road just before 6:30 p.m. when he clocked a southbound vehicle traveling 90 mph in a 65 mph speed zone. The vehicle also failed to maintain its lane of travel.

The HCSO deputy, with emergency lights on, began to follow the vehicle in order to make a traffic stop. The vehicle, which was being driven by Erasmo Javier Acosta, 25, initially stopped, but when the deputy exited his patrol car, the driver sped away. The deputy contacted Hall County Dispatch to inform operators he was in pursuit of the vehicle.

The pursuit continued at escalating speeds past Lula Road (SR 52) where Acosta drove into the gore of the highway and ran a red light at the intersection. As Acosta traveled past Cagle Road, the Georgia State Patrol took over the pursuit of the vehicle. GSP followed Acosta’s vehicle onto I-985 southbound where the suspect turned off the vehicle’s headlights. Troopers followed Acosta to Jesse Jewell Parkway, then East Crescent Drive, eventually stopping the offender on East Ridge Road.

Acosta was arrested at the location on East Ridge Road by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.”
